Russia Circumvents Sanctions with the Help of Armenia and Kazakhstan: The New York Times

“After the onset of the war in Ukraine, Russia has begun to import a number of military-related goods with the help of Armenia and Kazakhstan, circumventing sanctions,” claims an article published today by the American newspaper The New York Times.

The paper cites materials presented during a meeting held on March 24 with participation from U.S. tax and trade department officials. According to these materials, imports of chips and processors from the United States to Armenia increased by 515% in 2022 compared to the previous year. The import of the same goods from EU countries to Armenia also rose by 212% in 2022.

“97% of the imported products were later re-exported to Russia,” The New York Times asserts. The newspaper claims that the imported equipment is of significant importance to Russia's military industry, particularly for missile production.
