Pacific Fleet Mobilized on High Alert Following Shoigu's Orders

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has announced the unexpected mobilization of the Pacific Fleet on high alert. The entire fleet will be brought to the highest level of combat readiness, as reported by kommersant.ru.

Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, has instructed to ensure the readiness of strategic submarines for combat operations during the inspection. The aim of the inspection has been stated as enhancing the capability to counter potential enemy aggression.

According to Shoigu, operations to repel enemy landings in the Southern Kuril Islands and Sakhalin will be developed as part of the inspection. The Zvezda television channel reports that involved in the unexpected inspection of the Pacific Fleet on high alert on the morning of April 14 are the Russian Aerospace Forces, units, and support subdivisions. Long-range aviation commands and aircraft from the Eastern Military District will also be engaged in the undisclosed inspection in the Far East.

The entire inspection will be conducted in three phases. In the first phase, the fleet will be placed on full combat readiness, and air defense forces and standby aviation units will be inspected,” noted Valery Gerasimov. He clarified that after this, permanent readiness forces will be positioned from base points to combat readiness areas. During the third phase of the inspection, combat readiness tasks will be developed.

The last sudden inspection of the Pacific Fleet took place in November 2022.
