Why Mher Sahakyan Did Not Fulfill His Promise: 'Hraparak'

'Hraparak' newspaper reports: 'Yesterday, the parliament elected Anahit Manasyan as the Human Rights Defender with 65 votes in favor and 0 against, and then deprived the opposition 'Armenia' faction MP Mher Sahakyan of his parliamentary immunity. The closed voting was attended only by members of the ruling 'Civil Contract' party, and not in full composition, as the delegation led by Alen Simonian was sent to Saint Petersburg yesterday morning.

Mher Sahakyan himself announced from the parliamentary podium, 'In order to avoid the impression that I am hiding behind the cloak of immunity, I will personally vote in favor of this motion, as I am interested in revealing the truth.' However, he did not participate in the voting yesterday. Why? Because, according to Seyran Ohanyan, the deputy left for the Tegh community due to recent events. It is worth noting that among the opposition MPs who went to Tegh, Sahakyan's name was not mentioned by his colleagues. According to Agnessa Khomoyan and Kristine Vardanyan's posts, those who went to Tegh include Arthur Sargsyan, Anna Grigoryan, Aspyram Krpeyan, Garnik Danielyan, and themselves.

Recall that about two weeks ago, Sahakyan had struck the chairman of the state-legal committee, Vladimir Vardanyan, on the temple during a committee meeting. Sahakyan declared in parliament that he acted in self-defense, while he is being accused of hooliganism.'
