We Caught Him, Then the Police Arrived and Asked Why We Had Arrested Him, What Are You Doing? A Man from Syunik Tells

Three young men from the village of Ajanan in the Syunik region discovered an Azerbaijani who had crossed the border three days ago. NEWS.am connected with one of the young men, Gor Ohanyan, who shared details of the incident.

“My friend and I had left the village and were heading to the city of Kapan when we saw him—dressed in Turkish military uniform. We stopped and asked him questions, realizing he was Turkish. Then my other friend, Ashot, came, and we all stopped. We caught him, and then the police came and started asking us what we were doing there, why we had caught him, and so on. Instead of dealing with him, our police came and started talking to us. We’ve caught a Turk and they come asking us what we are doing—you understand? The behavior of those police was very bad,” Gor recounted.

He described the condition in which they found the Azerbaijani. “He was wet and dirty. There were bullets nearby, masks, and he had mixed munitions. He also had a phone in his hand, which belonged to a person who had been found murdered at the plant.”

It is noted that a murdered guard of the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine was discovered the day before. According to our information, law enforcement is considering one of the main hypotheses to be the assassination by Azerbaijanis. According to the Ministry of Defense's report, on April 10, between 01:00 and 02:00, an Azerbaijani serviceman was discovered and detained within the territory of Armenia. Another serviceman was with him, and search efforts for him have been ongoing for three days.

Azerbaijani media, citing that country's Ministry of Defense, reported that two Azerbaijani servicemen were missing. They are said to have lost their way due to adverse weather conditions and limited visibility towards Nakhichevan.

It should be recalled that Azerbaijani soldiers had knocked on the doors of a resident in the Bnunis community of the Syunik region. The detained individual was found in the community of Ashotavan. Residents described how the Azerbaijani soldiers had knocked on one resident's door for a long time, and when the homeowner opened the door, she saw masked soldiers, closed the door, and called the police. The Azerbaijani they caught was dressed in civilian clothes. It is noteworthy that Bnunis and Ashotavan communities are quite far from Azerbaijani positions—about 20 km away. Notably, the day before, Prime Minister Pashinyan had stated in parliament that according to their information, shortly after the second soldier crossed the border, he had indicated his remorse and that he wanted to return.
