Final Decision on Mher Sahakyan: 'Zhoghovurd'
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' writes: The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia will discuss the prosecutor’s request to initiate public persecution against Mher Sahakyan, a member of the 'Hayastan' faction. The Attorney General of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan, will present the case.
According to the 'Rules of Procedure' law of the National Assembly, the decision to grant consent for criminal prosecution against a member of parliament or to deprive him of his liberty is adopted through a secret ballot with a majority of votes. This means that the 'Civil Contract' party, which has 71 members, can single-handedly approve the request.
According to information from 'Zhoghovurd', the 'Civil Contract' party has a unified decision regarding Mher Sahakyan, similar to the cases of Seyran Ohanyan and Armen Charents. They will come and consent to the prosecutor’s request to initiate criminal prosecution against the opposition MP.
Additionally, while there were disagreements within the ruling faction regarding Ohanyan and Charents, the officials are more 'combative' in the case of Mher Sahakyan. Notably, the opposition will also participate in the session and will utilize the entire 'arsenal' of scandalous incidents involving the members of the 'Civil Contract' party. The 'Civil Contract' party is currently in a vulnerable position amid the recent behavior of its members.
