Armenia's Connection to Russia Will Improve Through Georgian Territory

The Executive Director of the Road Department foundation, Gor Avetisyan, accompanied the delegation led by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, to the construction site of a 9 km long tunnel being built along the new 23 km road leading to the Georgian-Russian border.

The Armenian delegation visited the construction area with the Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, and the head of the Georgian Road Department. Members of the Armenian delegation inspected the ongoing construction works of the 9 km long tunnel and familiarized themselves with the latest technologies in tunnel drilling.

This new road and tunnel are of significant importance for Armenia. Once this new infrastructure is operational, it will facilitate Armenia's connection to the Russian Federation through Georgian territory. The 23 km long asphalt-concrete road will have 5 bridges and 5 tunnels, the longest of which will be 9 km.

Under the leadership of Minister Sanosyan, the delegation also visited the Upper Lars border crossing.
