Video: The Civil Contract should discuss the incident related to Alen Simonyan and express a public stance, Vigen Khachatryan
“When a person says, ‘Wherever I see it, I will do that,’ that is already not the position of a citizen; it is something a bit different. In that regard, Ter-Petrosyan could have been more tactful and, as the first president, could have made a significant statement that this phenomenon is ugly. In my opinion, all of this is aimed at pushing those in power out of line rather than showing a response. This cannot be ignored and regarded as normal. It is not normal, it is not right,” said Vigen Khachatryan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, in an interview with NEWS.am.
Khachatryan expressed the opinion that the Civil Contract should discuss the incident related to Alen Simonyan and that the public should be informed about the appropriate response.
“But this is not personal; it should not be perceived that I have dignity and need to respond. No, you are limited; you are an official. The highest body of the Civil Contract should discuss this incident and express its public stance. This should be a lesson for everyone; we can be criticized and unjustly insulted, and we need to be restrained. Any mistake can be corrected, and anyone can be held accountable for any mistake. As for what degree of accountability is necessary in this case, let them discuss it,” he stated. “On the other hand, Ter-Petrosyan should not circumvent behaviors that are not commendable. Many things have happened in the world; why should they be repeated in Armenia? Yes, many things have happened in the world; that does not mean that wherever there was foolishness, we should repeat it. Ter-Petrosyan should have said that such behavior escalates the situation, throws people off balance, and this should not be done. He is fueling the fire with his words,” said Vigen Khachatryan.
It is noteworthy that recently, a citizen called the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, a traitor in the streets, after which he reportedly ordered his bodyguards to grab the citizen, and he spat on the citizen. Regarding this incident, Levon Ter-Petrosyan published an article stating that the Civil Contract faction is obliged to initiate the issue of Alen Simonyan's dismissal. In response, Alen Simonyan invited Levon Ter-Petrosyan to the National Assembly.
