Former Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan Will Receive a Position Soon: Media

On March 14, it became known that Tigran Parvanyan has been relieved of his duties as the commander of the Armenian-Russian joint forces, according to a presidential decree. Parvanyan held this position since February 2018. This was reported by MediaHub.

“And we have been informed that in return for Onik Gasparyan's ‘contribution’—not only due to years of service but especially for maintaining silence and not opposing the current government—Prime Minister Pashinyan has decided to appoint him to a new position,” the outlet stated.

It is perhaps this circumstance that explains why, merely two days after Parvanyan's dismissal, Onik Gasparyan was present in the National Assembly's investigative commission studying the circumstances of the 44-day war, where he spoke for several hours and, according to feedback, satisfied the authorities.

Following the session, Andranik Kocharyan, a member of the commission from the ruling party, answered reporters' questions regarding whether Onik Gasparyan would return to the Armenian armed forces in the future and if the government had such plans, stating: “Onik Gasparyan is capable not only of conducting analyses and documenting facts, but he can also have a distinct contribution to our educational programs based on his experience.” He also mentioned, “After the work concludes, we will see what conclusions will be drawn.”

However, it should be noted that Onik Gasparyan could have changed the situation both during and after the 44-day war. He simply either did not want to or was afraid to. It’s also worth mentioning that, as usual, Onik Gasparyan did not respond to our phone calls.
