Russian Ambassador in Armenia Comments on Incident in Lachin Corridor
In Armenia, the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopirkin has commented on the incident that occurred in the Lachin corridor yesterday, where a group of Azerbaijani "activists" attempted to obstruct the return of 27 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to their homes. The vehicles were escorted by a convoy of Russian peacekeepers. This information was reported by Sputnik Armenia.
In a conversation with journalists, Kopirkin stated that he does not possess details about the incident and can only assess it based on media reports. However, the ambassador believes that the Russian peacekeepers are doing everything they can, within their mandate, to ensure the normal functioning of life in Nagorno-Karabakh. They are working even under the complex conditions when the Lachin corridor is closed.
"The role of our peacekeepers is critical both for ensuring normal life and preventing potential attempts at escalation. You are well aware of how peacekeepers operate. Information about this is regularly published. The importance of their role is also recognized by the leadership of Armenia," Kopirkin added.
In response to a question about attempts to discredit peacekeepers, the ambassador asserted that one should rely on facts rather than comments.
It is worth noting that yesterday, Russian peacekeepers attempted to transport 27 citizens from Goris, Armenia, to Artsakh, but Azerbaijani "eco-activists" obstructed the movement of vehicles at the blocked section of the Goris-Stepanakert highway. Due to the intervention of Azerbaijanis at the site, the condition of four of our citizens deteriorated.
