France's Attempts Are Doomed to Failure, Azerbaijan's MFA Claims Distorted Facts
Today, a protest statement has been presented at the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan concerning the conference held in the French Senate on March 16, which was 'directed against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity and exhibited a blatant disregard for international law'.
According to Azerbaijani media, the statement reads: 'It is regrettable that the French parliament has become an instrument in the hands of forces conducting a campaign against Azerbaijan after the Second Karabakh War. While international efforts are intensifying towards signing a peace agreement with Armenia, the action taken by the French Senate serves revanchism. It is unacceptable that France, avoiding the protection of the rights of national minorities, is active regarding the Armenian minority in Azerbaijan. The term 'people of Corsica' has been banned as contrary to the French Constitution. However, France seeks to represent the ethnic minority living in Azerbaijan as the 'people of Artsakh'. The laws adopted by the French Senate and National Assembly against Islamic separatism, which constantly intervene in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, are widely used to restrict freedoms in this country. In this regard, the conference held in the French Senate is a vivid example of political hypocrisy.
France's rude attempts to restore lost positions in the region are doomed to failure. The Milli Majlis has appealed to the government, stating that France, which has shown unjust treatment towards Azerbaijan, should not be involved in the process of regulating relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia until it changes its position. In the context of the recent provocative actions by the French side, the Azerbaijani parliament once again demonstrates its principled stance, calling on the French Senate to refrain from distorting events in the South Caucasus, from actions aimed against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, from interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, and to take steps to promote the establishment of long-term peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,' the statement said.
The statement has been presented for discussion and adopted. It should be noted that the Azerbaijani side regularly issues such statements concerning the French side, as France maintains an impartial and objective stance regarding the events occurring in the region.
