VIDEO: "Violence Against Women is Unacceptable" - Women's Solidarity March Held in Georgia
A women’s solidarity march against inequality, violence, oppression, and terrorism was held in Tbilisi. The solidarity march began on Agmashenebeli Avenue and concluded in the "Mother Language" (Dedaleni Park), Sputnik Georgia reports.
Participants in the women's solidarity march emphasized that the state has undertaken local and international commitments to achieve gender equality, including within the framework of a 12-point program for European integration. However, they noted that violent and degrading treatment towards women has not diminished.
The marchers called on politicians to publicly refrain from statements that condone violence against women. Notably, the Public Defender Levan Ioseliani was also present before the start of the march. The Public Defender stated that the status of women and the protection of their rights are paramount.
"I express my solidarity with this action; violence against women is unacceptable. I stand in solidarity with all women who have been subjected to violence. The status of women and the protection of their rights are priorities, which is why I am here," Ioseliani noted.
