Opposition MP Literally Attacks Vladimir Vardanyan, Says Ruling Party Secretary

A physical altercation has occurred in the National Assembly's permanent committee on legal affairs during a closed discussion. Arthur Hovhannisyan, the secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction, told Radar Armenia that the opposition Armenia faction MP, Mehher Sahakyan, attacked the committee chairman, Vladimir Vardanyan.

“About an hour ago during a discussion in the National Assembly's permanent committee on legal affairs, various foreign policy issues were raised, and Yeghishe Kirakosyan was also invited. During the discussion, without any justification or motive, a certain person named Mehher Sahakyan from the Armenia faction literally attacked Vladimir Vardanyan. I repeat, without any motive or justification. He caused a bodily injury to the eyebrow area, and there is a need for stitches. We have contacted both the police and the prosecutor's office in order for this incident to have legal consequences. I also want to point out in detail that Mehher Sahakyan attacked and hit Mr. Vardanyan, immediately fled after the attack, and hid in one of the corners of the National Assembly. The police will find him, and I hope there will be legal consequences,” Hovhannisyan stated.

This was also reported by Hayk Konjoryan, the leader of the Civil Contract faction in the National Assembly. “Just now, during a closed discussion in the legal affairs committee, opposition MP Mehher Sahakyan attacked the committee chairman Vladimir Vardanyan, inflicted bodily injuries on him, and fled. This disgraceful hooliganism must have clear legal consequences,” the MP said.
