Azerbaijan Begins Spreading New Disinformation: Margaryan Writes to UN Secretary-General
The Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Mher Margaryan, has written a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres refuting Azerbaijan's claims that minors are being involved in the Armenian armed forces. The information was reported by the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN.
Margaryan's letter was published on March 24 as an official document of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly on the UN's official website.
In his letter, the Armenian representative talked about the disinformation spread by Azerbaijan at the UN, emphasizing that the propagation of such falsehoods has become a typical practice for Azerbaijan. Highlighting Armenia's commitment to protecting the rights of children in conflict zones, Margaryan noted that Azerbaijan must cease its futile attempts to blame Armenia for its own reprehensible actions, including the exploitation of children's rights issues for apparent propaganda purposes. Instead, Azerbaijan should fulfill its legal obligations, particularly concerning the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice against Azerbaijan.
It is worth mentioning that Azerbaijan included allegations of child involvement in armed conflict against Armenia in its report.
Recall that on February 22, the International Court of Justice concluded that there is an imminent risk of irreparable harm to the rights of Armenians under the international convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination due to Azerbaijani actions. The court ruled that Azerbaijan is obligated to take all necessary measures to ensure the free movement of transport and people through the Lachin corridor in both directions. Simultaneously, the court unanimously rejected Azerbaijan's request for interim measures.
