France's Airports to Cancel 20% of Flights Due to Air Traffic Controllers' Strike
France's airports will cancel 20% of flights due to a strike by air traffic controllers protesting pension reforms. This was reported by AFP on Friday, March 31.
The country's civil aviation authority has requested airlines to cancel flights scheduled for April 3 and 4 due to the protest actions. Changes will be made to flight schedules at Marseille and Bordeaux airports on Monday, while Orly airport will face disruptions on Sunday.
The law to raise the retirement age was passed in parliament on March 16 without a vote. Representatives from trade unions and opposition political parties condemned the government's actions. The following day, the opposition LIOT group filed a motion of no confidence against the government.
Mass protests have taken place in various cities across France. BFMTV reported that demonstrators took to the streets in Nantes, Tulle, Rennes, and Paris, where they clashed with police.
Earlier, on March 21, participants in the protest against pension reforms blocked railways and highways.
