The Only Means of Communication with Stepanakert is Currently Phone, Says Mayor of Mets Shen

Due to Azerbaijan's complete blockade of Artsakh, the road connection between the Mets Shen community of the Shushi region and the capital Stepanakert has been severed, creating humanitarian issues in the village.

In a conversation with an Artsakhpress correspondent, Mayor Davit Davidiants stated that residents of the village who work in Stepanakert are currently left without jobs.

“We have a female student from the village who is currently in Stepanakert and is unable to visit her parents; they can only maintain contact through phone calls. At present, the only means of communication with Stepanakert is via mobile phone,” the mayor noted.

According to him, residents of Mets Shen are engaged in agricultural work these days, despite the fact that Azerbaijani positions are quite close to both the village and agricultural lands. “I myself am involved in beekeeping. My beehives are located 500 meters away from the enemy’s positions,” the mayor emphasized, adding that although there have been no recorded instances of the enemy targeting peaceful residents, concerns remain among the population.

The villagers started their spring planting about 10-12 days ago. According to the community leader, they have already managed to plant potatoes, onions, garlic, and greens. “The villagers had potato seeds, but, according to applications, state support was also provided on time—about 100-150 kilograms per person,” Davidiants presented.

Addressing the village's issues, he mentioned that they have been facing irrigation water problems for several years, which has resulted in some orchards being unused. The Mayor of Mets Shen stated that the government of the Republic of Artsakh plans to install springs in the village, and he believes that the implementation of this project would somewhat resolve the issue.
