147,000 New Recruits to be Drafted into Russian Armed Forces by Putin's Decree
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree regarding the spring draft of citizens for military service. The draft will take place from April 1 to July 15, with plans to send 147,000 new recruits to the army, according to Russian media.
"From April 1 to July 15, 2023, the conscription of Russian citizens aged 18 to 27 who are not in reserve and are subject to military service will occur..." the document states.
The decree also specifies the number of citizens to be drafted—147,000 individuals. In the fall of 2022, the Russian army drafted 120,000 new recruits, while in the spring of last year, 134,500 individuals were called up.
