Samvel Babayan's Office Issues Statement

Samvel Babayan's press service has released a statement indicating that, “For an extended period, Armenian media has been focused on Samvel Babayan's activities in Artsakh, attributing to him a monopolistic position in the market, being overlooked in intellectual circles, and facing opposition in the 'opposition' environment, among other things.

In light of such publications, we find it necessary to clarify: S. Babayan is an independent figure and does not condition his activities based on the positioning or moods of political groups. He rejects the association with bankrupt forces and individuals, and furthermore, considers any form of support from such circles as a shadow on his reputation.

In this regard, the emphasized solidarity is not against S. Babayan, but rather in defense of those who have plundered for years and want to keep it at all costs. It has been openly declared more than once that these individuals must be held accountable and should be viewed in this context, along with their futile attempts to revive their political careers after signing off on their political prospects.

These same circles continuously employ 'old and trusted' technologies to obstruct S. Babayan’s political return. They easily mislead the population, who are surrounded by basic necessities, with social inequality by linking S. Babayan and his family to monopolistic economic activities, unrelated to corruption and shadow transactions.

Like every citizen of Artsakh, S. Babayan’s son is free to engage in entrepreneurial activities, which he does in accordance with legal regulations, just like other entrepreneurs. In fact, the press accuses the Babayan family of illegal activities. Yet, legality seems to mean privatizing mines, receiving billions of dollars interest-free from foundations, owning mansions at the expense of the people, gifting state properties to each other, plundering the country, and living off the burden of the people.

In a free market environment, engaging in legitimate entrepreneurship is thus not only tolerated but condemned. As for monopoly and the quality of imported goods, decent media should conduct journalistic investigations and present factual evidence; otherwise, texts that do not exceed defamation merely provoke a sympathetic smile.”

It should be noted that Samvel Babayan has taken control of the meat business in Artsakh.
