France Must Apply Maximum Pressure for the Opening of the Lachin Corridor: Loran Wauquie
France must apply maximum pressure for the opening of the Lachin corridor, stated Loran Wauquie, president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council of France, today in Syunik.
“It is very important for the international community to respond. The international community is becoming complicit with its silence. There is a decision from the International Court of Justice, and that decision must absolutely be respected. And what can France do, in my opinion, what should it do? To apply maximum pressure so that we can at least open the road for humanitarian aid as a first step,” Wauquie said.
The French official's delegation is on a two-day visit to the Syunik region and today visited the entrance of the closed Lachin corridor at the Karmir Khach section of Tegh village, emphasizing that with this action, he wants to show the world that France stands by its friend, Armenia.
Loran Wauquie expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis caused by the closure of the corridor for more than 100 days, deeming Azerbaijan's approach unacceptable. “Their (Azerbaijan's) hope is that they will have progress here, will become established here, people will gradually forget, and the fact will remain that they are here already. In that regard, it is very important to continually remind that there is international law and that the rules of international law are being violated, and the decision of the international court is being breached. This is not even about the borders and delimitation of two sovereign states; it is about 150 thousand people, whose rights are being violated,” he emphasized.
