If the Russian President Visits Armenia, Armenia is Obligated to Arrest Him, Says RPA MP
Moscow seems to believe that we are still dependent on them. They have never seen us as independent. This was stated by RPA MP Gagik Melkonyan in an interview with Factor.am.
“We need to understand one thing: we are an independent state, and we decide the fate of our country. After the revolution and independence, they took control of our politics. Now they see that we want to become an independent state. Let them think about their own country,” said the MP.
In response to the observation that by ratifying the Rome Statute, Armenia is obligated to arrest the Russian President if he visits, Melkonyan replied: “First of all, he will not come, nor will Armenia arrest him. If we enter into such agreements, then we must fulfill our obligations.”
When asked why he believes he will not come to Armenia, the MP responded: “I hope he doesn’t come. If we have signed this document, it would be better if he does not come. If he comes to Armenia, he should be arrested,” he said.
