As a Result of Conversations with Putin, Lachin Has Been Returned to Azerbaijan: Ilham Aliyev
The Lachin airport is expected to be put into operation probably by the end of next year or the beginning of 2025. This was reported by Trend, quoting Aliyev’s words:
“Despite the fact that this region came under our control after the end of the Second Karabakh War, the city of Lachin remained outside our control. There were objective reasons for this, as the road from Armenia to Karabakh passes through the center of Lachin city. As a result of phone conversations lasting during the day with the President of Russia on November 9, 2020, we managed to agree on the return of the city of Lachin to Azerbaijan.”
“For this purpose, at my insistence, the construction of an alternative road was included in the final statement, and a timeframe was specified. However, it was vaguely stated that discussions on this issue will continue for three years. Nevertheless, immediately after the end of the Second Karabakh War, I ordered to determine the route of the new road and all technical parameters,” said Aliyev.
It should be noted that since December 12 of last year, activists sponsored by the Azerbaijani authorities have unlawfully blocked the Lachin corridor. In addition to ignoring numerous condemnations by international figures, countries, and various organizations, Baku continues to subject 120,000 residents of Artsakh to a humanitarian disaster.
