VIDEO: 'Out of 2500 trees planned, only 150 are cherry blossoms' - Begoyan

Armen Begoyan, the director of the Greenery and Environmental Protection NGO, presented the tree replacement program in the capital during a working meeting at the Yerevan Municipality. He informed that a conference was organized, featuring well-known experts. 'All participants unanimously decided, moreover, they urged us to start replacing the trees that have lost their vitality or are nearing the end of their life as soon as possible,' he stated.

According to him, the experts expressed positive feedback about the tree species proposed for replacement. 'The first phase of the work began on March 23. It was on Moscow Street. It was chosen because, according to the previous plan, cherry blossom trees were to be planted there, which were in the pre-bloom stage. Among the tree species purchased by the municipality, cherry blossoms constitute 4-5%. The remaining species are mainly larger canopied trees such as pines, oaks, and so on.'

Addressing speculations that the municipality is planning to cover the city with cherry blossoms, Begoyan stated that this is not the case. 'Of the 2500 trees planned, only 150 are cherry blossoms.'
