Russia Warns Armenia About Extremely Negative Consequences of Joining the Rome Statute, Russian Foreign Ministry
The Russian Federation has warned Armenian authorities about the extremely negative consequences of joining the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, in the context of the news regarding the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported to TASS by an anonymous source in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"Armenian partners have been warned about the extremely negative consequences concerning bilateral relations," the source stated.
On March 24, the Constitutional Court of Armenia deemed the desire to join the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court not contradictory to the Constitution, which, according to the Armenian side, would allow appeals to the court regarding Azerbaijan’s military crimes.
By joining the Rome Statute, Armenia would be obliged to execute the decisions of the International Criminal Court, including the arrest of individuals who have been placed on its wanted list.
On March 17, that same court issued a decision to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin.
