VIDEO. "They are cutting down trees to finally bury the city in dust and dirt," public figures warn
Director of the "Democratic Platform" Foundation, Garen Miskaryan writes: "They say, 'We are cutting down trees that are nearing the end of their viability.' On one side is Amulsar, they want to exploit mines in Gladzor, they want to exploit mines in Meghri, they want to exploit mines in Lori, and they are 'unprecedentedly' developing the green spaces of Yerevan. On top of that, they are cutting down the few trees that remain in the center to ultimately bury the city in dust and dirt. 'Саранча'—what is that called in Armenian?"
Former MP Naira Zohrabyan also expressed her dissatisfaction. She noted: "For unclear reasons, they are now cutting down the trees in Cascade—under the dull and indifferent gazes of passersby who are mindlessly munching on their snacks." She also recalled the years when the current government was in opposition and how they responded to decisions made about cutting a single bush in the city.
On March 21, the "Greening and Environmental Protection" Municipal Non-Trading Organization announced that starting March 23, they will begin the long-awaited replacement of trees that are nearing the end of their viability, have lost their vitality, or are deformed with more valuable and picturesque trees. It was indicated that the work would take place in the area between Mashtots Avenue and Baghramyan Avenue, including Moscow Street, and Sayat-Nova Avenue from France Square to the Terian intersection.
