VIDEO: Aliyev Literally Said That If Armenia Does Not Accept Its Terms for Delimitation, There Will Be No Peace Treaty – Pashinyan
The speech delivered by the leader of Azerbaijan on March 18 contained a clear message: he bluntly stated that Armenia must accept Azerbaijan's conditions and agree to carry out delimitation on those terms; otherwise, there will be no peace treaty. This was stated today, March 23, during a government meeting by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“This can hardly be characterized in any way other than as an act of aggression against Armenia and a gross violation of agreements reached at the highest level. Because the statement adopted as a result of the quadrilateral meeting in Prague on October 6, 2022, states: ‘Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirm their commitment to the UN Charter and the 1991 Almaty Declaration, by which both sides recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They confirmed that this would serve as the basis for the work of the commissions on delimitation,’” he noted.
The Prime Minister pointed out that a similar statement was also adopted on October 31 of that year in Sochi by the presidents of the Russian Federation, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, stating: ‘We agreed to refrain from the use of force or the threat thereof, to discuss and resolve all contentious issues exclusively on the basis of mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders in accordance with the UN Charter and the 1991 Almaty Declaration.’
“After these statements, which directly record that the Soviet borders have transformed into state borders, Azerbaijan continues to speak about delimitation based on some historical maps, which is absolutely unacceptable for the simple reason that it contradicts the written agreements reached at the highest level. Azerbaijan's violation of agreements is the reason why we continue to insist that both for the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty and regarding the security and rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, reliable international mechanisms are necessary for the implementation of the agreements reached in the Stepanakert-Baku format,” said the Prime Minister.
