‘Such Trees Also Pose a Threat’: City Hall on Tree Cutting in Cascade

Trees in the Cascade area are being cut down in collaboration with specialized experts and based on professional assessments. The felled trees will be immediately replaced with new ones more suited to Yerevan's climatic conditions.

This was announced by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Yerevan City Hall in a conversation with Armenpress, adding that a professional consultation took place in City Hall several days ago, with participation from various interested parties and specialized experts.

“Since there are non-viable trees planted decades ago in Yerevan, the municipality is tasked with replacing and renewing these with more viable trees better adapted to the climatic conditions of Yerevan. This is being done in cooperation with specialized experts, based on their insights and professional evaluations,” the city hall officials stated.

Currently, there are several trees in the city whose root systems are deteriorating. “Based on this necessity, the process of replacing these trees has begun in the city. Such trees also pose a threat, as they can fall over in strong winds and endanger human life. The felled trees will be uprooted and immediately replaced with new ones,” the city hall emphasized.

The officials also highlighted that studies have been conducted to determine which tree species would be more viable and resilient in Yerevan's conditions and would serve for many years.
