AZERBAIJANI SIDE DEPLOYED 100-300 METERS AHEAD OF THE BORDER IN 5 POINTS - NSS
According to the agreements reached in August 2022, from April 1, 2023, the Lachin corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia should conclude at the Kornidzor bridge. The route connecting the Armenian territory to the Lachin corridor has to go through the Kornidzor-Tegh route exclusively from the territory of Armenia, as reported by the NSS of Armenia.
Since August 2022, a segment of the road that links the Lachin corridor to Armenia has again passed into Azerbaijani territory after the Kornidzor bridge. This segment of the road, along its entire length and its adjacent area, has been under the control of Russian peacekeeping forces.
According to the agreements reached the day before between Armenia and Azerbaijan, border guards from both countries should be deployed along the aforementioned segment at the end of March. During the deployment, discrepancies in the maps have emerged. In some areas, the Azerbaijani side, without waiting for the agreed clarifications, has begun to position itself and carry out engineering works.
According to Armenian calculations, there are five such points where the Azerbaijani side is deployed 100 to 300 meters ahead of the border. Currently, an agreement has been reached for the cartographers from both sides to clarify the situation. The Armenian side is approaching the situation with the logic of preventing escalation.
The Armenian army did not have positions in the contested area, as positions are established not along the border line, but on nearby strategic heights. And the protection of that segment of the border was supposed to be carried out by border troops in accordance with the aforementioned agreement.
