Syria's Ministry of Defense on Israeli Shelling of Aleppo Airport
Israeli aviation has carried out a missile strike near Aleppo International Airport. The attack was launched from the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Syrian Ministry of Defense website.
As a result of the assault, the airport in Syria's northern capital sustained material damage. According to Reuters, the target of the attack on Aleppo Airport was an underground storage facility for Iranian weapons, where it is believed guided missile systems were stockpiled. These systems had been previously delivered from Iran to the Nairab International Airport.
Al Arabiya reports that the strike was carried out by Israeli fighter jets, leading to a suspension of operations at the airport. The Israeli Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the incident.
Aleppo Airport has been targeted twice in recent months, in August 2022 and early March 2023.
