Teacher in Armenia Hits 4th Grade Students, Suspended and Case Goes to Court
The homeroom teacher of the 4th grade at Gavar No. 1 Basic School, Sinam Hovsepyan, is accused of hitting two minor students. The case has been sent to court. This information was reported to News.am by Gor Abrahamyan, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee.
According to information obtained from the 'Datalex' information system, the indictment states that Sinam Hovsepyan, a teacher at Gavar No. 1 Basic School, physically assaulted 4th grade students Narek Grigoryan and Sargis Abrahamyan, who were in a state of dependence on him, causing them physical pain.
The incident occurred on December 8, 2022. On December 9, an investigation was initiated by the Gegharkunik regional investigative department based on article 195, parts 2, points 3 and 7 of the Criminal Code (causing harm or engaging in other acts of violence). On December 10, public criminal prosecution was initiated against the homeroom teacher of the 4th grade of Gavar No. 1 Basic School under the same legal provisions. A travel ban was imposed as a measure to prevent him from leaving the country, as well as a suspension from office. The prosecutor confirmed the indictment, and the case was sent to court,” reported Gor Abrahamyan.
In relation to the incident, the Public Relations and Information Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports stated to the media, “An assessment of the incident will be provided following the appropriate legal procedures, and in general, violence has no place in the educational process.”
