Lavrov on Western Actions Regarding Nagorno-Karabakh Issue

The United States and the European Union are openly seeking to undermine the Russian mediation efforts in resolving Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Moscow.

He reiterated the necessity of implementing the provisions of the trilateral statements.

"They are largely engaged in what I would call 'diplomatic raiding.' They are attempting to fit the trilateral agreements between Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan to their convenience, seeking to impose their curatorial control over all this work, directly undermining the key principles of these documents, which imply Moscow's active participation in both the unblocking of economic and transport communications and in border delimitation, as well as supporting the parties in signing a peace treaty," Lavrov said.

The meeting with Ararat Mirzoyan was intense. He mentioned that they had negotiated without aspirations towards the West and 'non-West,' candidly discussing the current situation.

According to him, the situation does not correspond to the provisions of the trilateral statements in all aspects.

"Today we discussed how to return the situation to a normal working order. I believe some understanding was reached," Lavrov added.

Earlier, Lavrov stated that Western attempts to sow discord between Armenia and Russia are doomed to failure.
