Now Artsakh and Azerbaijan are trying to find some common ground for conversation. Simonyan

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, is pleased that Armenia has elevated the role of Artsakh as a negotiator, directly participating in the resolution of the Artsakh issue, to the highest level, and now it is Artsakh that is making decisions.

Simonyan made this statement during a briefing with reporters in the National Assembly, addressing the call from Artsakh directed at the Armenian authorities not to question the right of the Artsakh people to self-determination.

"We do not question any rights. We are talking about the possibilities for exercising those rights. For 30 years, we have followed a path that is well known to all, we have spoken about it and seen what results we have obtained. Now the authorities of Artsakh have the opportunity, and I believe they are utilizing that opportunity; they are addressing their rights themselves. We will all wait, support, and see what changes the external political vector of the Nagorno-Karabakh authority will undergo and where it will lead that vector. And we will stand by them," said Simonyan.

The Speaker of the National Assembly does not know whether there will be changes in the external political vector of Artsakh, but emphasized that negotiations are about changing positions, and how those positions can be altered.

"At least I am very glad that we have raised the role of Artsakh as a negotiator, as a direct participant in the resolution of the Artsakh issue, to the highest level, and they are making decisions," stated the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Responding to a remark that the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh are discussing technical issues, Simonyan replied, "What do you know? The Republic of Armenia has had no demands and does not have any towards Azerbaijan. Now the authorities of Artsakh and those of Azerbaijan are trying to find some common ground for conversation. I do not think it is my place to enter that conversation and attempt to play the role of moderator."

He substantiated the necessity for an international mechanism by noting the constant danger that Azerbaijan may not uphold its agreements. Therefore, it is essential to have an international mechanism. The Speaker of the National Assembly assured that Armenia is pursuing this direction, as indicated by both Foreign Ministry statements and Azerbaijan's accusations against Armenia.

He noted that Armenia presents its opinion and position, but the decisions are made by the authorities of Artsakh.
