‘I want to understand what changed by his arrival’ - Speaker of the Parliament on CSTO Secretary General's visit
Speaker of the Parliament Alen Simonyan, addressing the visit of the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov to Armenia, responded: ‘What has changed by his arriving? I want to understand what changed by his arrival.’
To a reporter's observation that the CSTO Secretary General visited Jermuk, he rhetorically asked, ‘Who?’
Simonyan reminded that the CSTO does not take the steps it should take, highlighting its absence. He noted that these visits do not prevent Azerbaijan from committing aggressive actions two days later. ‘Politically speaking, he came and went. Let them come and go. The issue will not be resolved by that. They will come and go; that will not prevent any actions two days later. We have that experience after visits of higher officials,’ he stated.
Simonyan emphasized that regardless of which system Armenia is in, it constantly seeks and looks for all possible ways to ensure its security. ‘And you often see that it receives a sharp response from the same CSTO,’ he added.
