VIDEO: Five Girls Arrested in Iran for Dancing Without Hijab, Selena Gomez Comments on the Incident
Global music icon Selena Gomez has commented on five Iranian teenage girls who were arrested after dancing to her song. The video is believed to have been filmed near one of the towers in Ekbatan, Tehran, and was released in connection with International Women’s Day. The dance soon went viral on TikTok.
It’s important to note that women are prohibited from dancing in Iran and must cover their hair in public (in other words, they are required to wear hijabs).
Furthermore, the five girls who danced in the video were arrested for two days, warned, and then forced to apologize to the community.
One Iranian girl commented, “I am also Iranian. I can dance well too, but I can't do it because I’m not free in my country.”
This incident has sparked yet another wave of protests in Iran, with girls from various regions recording videos and dancing to this song.
