At least 14 people have died and another 381 have been injured due to an earthquake in Ecuador. This was reported on Twitter by President Guillermo Lasso's press service. '14 dead, 381 injured,' the message states.

The 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred on March 18. The epicenter was located 17 km southwest of the city of Naranjal, which has a population of 32,000. The quake struck at a depth of 85 km.

The earthquake was felt in several provinces of the country. There have been collapses in the city of Naranjal. Several towns experienced partial power outages. Approximately 50 residential buildings were damaged, with another seven completely destroyed. Damage was reported to the buildings of 17 schools and universities, as well as 31 medical centers.
