The Death Toll from Earthquakes in Turkey Approaches 50,000
The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey has exceeded 49,500. This was announced by Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay.
“A total of 49,589 people have died as a result of the earthquakes, including 6,807 foreign nationals,” Oktay stated.
Recall that on February 6, at 05:17, an earthquake occurred in the Kahramanmaraş province of Turkey, leading to devastation in several cities. At 14:24 and 14:36 local time, two more strong earthquakes were recorded. The intensity of the underground tremors in the epicentral zone reached 10-11 on the Richter scale.
Over 4,000 aftershocks have been registered.
