Azerbaijan Urges Water Conservation: The Reason Behind It
Due to climate change and the limitation of water resources, there has been a critical reduction in the water flow from other river tributaries to the lower reaches of the Kura. Consequently, the volume of water released from the Mingachevir reservoir has increased. This information was provided by the center for water resource management, according to Azerbaijani news outlets.
According to the published data, since March 17, 160 cubic meters of water per second have been released from the Mingachevir reservoir into the Kura. "The specified water flow is not characteristic of March, meaning it is exceedingly high. During the same period last year, 90 cubic meters per second were released from the Mingachevir reservoir into the Kura," the local media reports. This indicates that water usage has nearly doubled.
It has been emphasized that due to the tense situation in the water resources sector, water users must use water sparingly. It should be noted that this refers to irrigation practices. Previously, Artsakh's State Minister's advisor Artak Beglaryan had mentioned that due to the blockade of Artsakh, Azerbaijanis would face a water deficit.
