"We Still Need to Clarify What Happened in the Barracks Before the Fire" Says Representative of Fallen Soldiers' Heirs
The affected party is committed to uncovering the real circumstances of the case until the end. This was stated by Norair Norikyan, the representative of the heirs of soldiers who died in the fire in Azat village, in an interview with NEWS.am, commenting on the detention of the accused Yeghishe Hakobyan in this case.
It should be recalled that Captain Yeghishe Hakobyan, who is accused in the case of the fire that broke out in the barracks, is charged with igniting the stove with gasoline.
"It is completely natural for such a course of action to be taken; we accept the fact of the arrest with awareness. Naturally, the affected party will follow through until the actual circumstances of the case are revealed. We are monitoring developments and awaiting the results of other expert examinations. At the same time, certain questions arose from the results of the obtained examinations, and I believe there will soon be new developments in this case," he stated.
He mentioned that there are five accused in the case, three of whom have already been detained. These include the deputy commander of the battalion's rear, the head of the communal service, along with Captain Hakobyan, the company commander, and another soldier, who has also been charged with the engineering service leader.
"It is still necessary to clarify what happened in the barracks before the fire, why the soldiers were unable to escape from the burning barracks, which ultimately led to the incident. Or when did the carbon monoxide emerge, what caused it, what measures were taken by whom that led to its emergence? Additionally, was it indeed due to carbon monoxide? All of these questions must be clarified, and answers to all of them must be provided. What was the source of the fire’s spread? In which direction did it spread? How did the surviving soldiers communicate about the fire? How is it that the carbon monoxide did not affect them? These are all questions that need to be answered," he mentioned.
The lawyer noted that they will provide a final decision after receiving the results of the remaining examinations.
