Well, you say to the Russian peacekeepers: Leave. Is Nagorno-Karabakh capable of resisting Azerbaijan today without peacekeepers? - Serzh Sargsyan
I am not encouraged by the statements of certain Russian officials, and I consider it unacceptable when a terrorist and the target of a terrorist are put on the same level and called for calm. This was stated by Armenia's third President Serzh Sargsyan to journalists.
“This is very similar to a time in the late 1980s when the President of the USSR Supreme Soviet would say that people were fighting each other because of some internal issue. On the other hand, we at least saw the specific statement from Russia's Ministry of Defense yesterday. Were there any clearer statements? Today I saw a specific statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well, but we have a special representative of the EU in our region who is obliged to be thoroughly informed about these events. And what did he say? What does it mean, 'bloody events'? Is that a worthy comment? I want to say that everything should always be viewed in comparison.
“Well, we criticize the Russian peacekeepers and say they should go. Is there any other country willing to bring peacekeepers? If there is not, why do they speak so much? And is Nagorno-Karabakh capable of resisting Azerbaijan today without peacekeepers, especially since Armenia has already washed its hands, and Armenia no longer considers itself a guarantor of security? How is that population of 120,000 supposed to resist 10 million? Therefore, the presence of peacekeepers there is necessary today,” he said.
According to him, we must always remember that any alliance relationship is not one-sided aid. “In ordinary relationships, only that friendship is strong when the parties involved realize that friendship is also a mutual obligation. It is not about you always giving and me folding my hands and going to talk to someone else. It should be understood that international politics has very harsh, cruel aspects. When they see that a person does not understand what is happening, they immediately swallow them. Yes, Russia is still our ally, but do you see such allied relations from our side?”
