Who Will Compete Against Erdogan in Turkey's Upcoming Elections
The leader of the Republican People's Party, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, has been announced as the sole candidate of the opposition 'People's Alliance' in Turkey's general elections scheduled for May 14. He will compete against the candidate of the 'National Alliance', current President Tayyip Erdoğan, reports РИA Novosti.
Kılıçdaroğlu's candidacy was announced by the leader of the 'Happiness' Party, Temel Karamollaoğlu.
Previously, the leader of the Turkish opposition 'Good Party' (IP), Meral Akşener, stated that she is leaving the opposition coalition composed of six parties due to disagreements over the presidential candidate, as reported by Daily Sabah on Friday.
“At yesterday's meeting, five parties nominated Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, while we proposed Mansur Yavaş and Ekrem İmamoğlu. Unfortunately, our proposal was rejected,” said Akşener.
In turn, Kılıçdaroğlu, who was nominated by the majority of the alliance, declared that there is no reason for concern. “Don't worry, everything will fall into place,” he stated.
