Ukraine Conflict Reveals US Inability to Produce Necessary Ammunition, Pentagon
The US Deputy Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl has stated that the Ukrainian conflict highlights the inability of the US military-industrial complex to produce the necessary amount of ammunition. His remarks were reported by RIA Novosti during congressional hearings.
Kahl noted that increasing production is currently a priority for the US. According to him, Washington acknowledges the issue of corruption in Ukraine but believes that the weapons supplied to Kyiv are being used for its own purposes.
Earlier, Democratic Congressman Adam Smith said that the House Armed Services Committee has questioned the appropriateness of supplying American F-16 fighters to Ukraine. He stated that the potential relocation of the aircraft to Kyiv would be an "unjustified use of resources."
The Wall Street Journal, citing a report by John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, also reported that in the summer of 2021, the US executed an uncoordinated withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, resulting in at least $7.2 billion worth of weapons, military equipment, and hardware falling into the hands of the new authorities in the country.
