Our Most Powerful Weapons Were Not Used: We Had Enough Military Equipment Not to End the War This Way - Serge Sargsyan

Our army was not a “Mercedes,” that is for sure, and it could not be, because today’s “Mercedes” has decades of history, but our army can be compared to a “reliable,” normal car that performed its duties.

This was stated by the third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, during a conversation with journalists, noting that the country's leaders often try to compare something to a car.

“They say that this car was not good, this didn’t work, that didn’t work, but they forget that this car is driven not only by someone without a driving license, but by someone who doesn’t know how to drive at all: inevitably, that car will fall into the gorge, and it has fallen into the gorge. Instead of understanding that one should know how to drive, they speak again that we didn’t have an army,” he said.

According to him, we had an army and our army proved this from 1992 to 1994, and it proved it up until 2018.

Referring to the amounts spent on the military both previously and now, the third President of Armenia said, “All those figures related to money that they publish are a myth, a fairy tale. Because even an ordinary citizen knows very well what one dollar was worth in 2023, and what it was worth in 1994, 2004, or 2014.”

“Secondly, no one speaks about the fact that after 2018, Armenia did not receive any military-technical support. However, during my time as Minister of Defense and President, we received enormous military-technical assistance,” he added.

“The second point is that our army had enough ammunition and military equipment not to end the war this way. Our most powerful weapons were not used for reasons that are unclear to me. If they had been used in time, the situation would have been completely different. They say there was no weapons or ammunition. But if you follow the Russian-Ukrainian military actions, do you see that the Russian side is using all the weapons that we had? If you are not going to use them, even if we had an atomic bomb, we wouldn’t use it, would we? Besides, in terms of ammunition and personnel, we used 50 percent in the 44-day war, so why didn’t we use the other 50 percent?” Sargsyan emphasized.
