Andranik Kocharyan Comments on Speculation About Becoming Minister of Defense

Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, addressed rumors during a conversation with journalists regarding his aspirations to become the Minister of Defense.

“When I became Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs at the age of 28, the media constantly wrote that Andranik Kocharyan would be appointed minister the next day. But I rely on destiny. I am where I need to be. In the 1990s, the chairman of the defense committee was Vazgen Sargsyan; now I am in the place where we started the phases of establishing our security system. These discussions also serve to introduce uncertainty into the reform process that we have initiated,” he said.

When asked if he believes the police have been reformed, the committee chairman replied, “Of course not. The police are just entering a phase that allows us to make the reform process irreversible. That is why they became a ministry, to be more manageable.”
