Four Arrested for Illegal Crossing of Armenian-Turkish Border
On January 31, during an attempt to illegally cross the Armenian-Turkish state border, four foreign citizens were arrested by Russian FSB border guards in the 'Akhtamar' border checkpoint area in Shirak Province. This was reported by the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
According to the NSS, 'In accordance with the established procedure, the border violators were handed over to the NSS by the Russian border guards.'
The NSS Investigative Department has initiated a criminal case under Article 44-469, Part 3, Point 2 of the Armenian Criminal Code (attempt to illegally cross the state border). By court order, the border violators have been detained.
No further information related to the criminal proceedings is being disclosed as it is not subject to publication.
According to media reports, the arrested individuals are citizens of Egypt.
It is worth noting that as part of an interstate agreement, the Federal Security Service of Russia is responsible for ensuring the security of the state border of Armenia with Turkey and Iran.
