Azerbaijan and Russian Peacekeepers Must Ensure Free Movement for Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh: Human Rights Watch

The closure of the Lachin corridor has disrupted access to essential goods and services for thousands of ethnic Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh and is creating a humanitarian crisis. This was stated by Giorgi Gogia, deputy director of the Europe and Central Asia division of the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch.

He emphasized that while Russian peacekeepers and International Committee of the Red Cross trucks can pass through the Lachin corridor to deliver essential goods or transport seriously ill individuals to Armenia, many needs of the Artsakh population remain unmet.

“Azerbaijani authorities and Russian peacekeeping forces must ensure that protests do not deprive residents of Nagorno-Karabakh of their rights, including access to health, essential services, and goods, as well as their right to free movement,” Gogia wrote.
