EU Extends Sanctions Against Russia Until February 24, 2024
The EU Council has approved the extension of sanctions against Russia until February 24, 2024, according to the official journal of the European Union.
"The restrictive measures should be extended until February 24, 2024," the magazine's report states. It emphasizes that "the European Union is unwavering (...) in its support for Ukraine" and notes that the decision to extend the sanctions will come into effect the day after its publication in the EU Official Journal.
Just the day before, the 10th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation was discussed at the level of EU foreign ministers, as reported by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell. "We are in the process of approval; it should be confirmed in the coming hours and days, certainly before February 24," the EU's head of diplomacy said at a press conference in Brussels.
He mentioned that "the obstacles that remain will be addressed; it is the responsibility of all ministers," Borrell added.
Currently, there are 1,386 individuals and 171 entities under EU sanctions against Russia.
