EU to Send 100-Member Mission to Armenia: Details

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the European Union will send a 100-member mission to Armenia next week. This was reported by "RIA Novosti."
On January 23, during a meeting, EU Foreign Ministers approved the establishment of a civilian mission in Armenia aimed at stabilizing border areas, building trust, and facilitating the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The mission is expected to have a mandate of two years, with its operational headquarters located in Armenia.

On Friday, von der Leyen met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. “The EU is a reliable partner for Armenia. Next week, a 100-member mission will be sent to promote peace and stability. We welcome the progress in democratic reforms and will continue to develop the country's capabilities as part of our economic investment program,” the EU leader wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the deployment of the EU's new mediating mission in Armenia, stating that the presence of EU representatives in Armenia's border regions could bring geopolitical confrontation to the region and exacerbate existing tensions, as well as efforts to marginalize the EU.
