Do Not Use Brochures and Catalogs Containing Information About Nagorno-Karabakh: Letter from ITB Berlin Exhibition
The organizers of one of the world's largest tourism fairs, the International Tourism Exhibition in Berlin (ITB Berlin), have sent a letter to the Armenian Ministry of Economy requesting that brochures, catalogs, and other materials containing information about Nagorno-Karabakh not be used during the exhibition. To substantiate their demand, the letter references four resolutions of the UN Security Council regarding Nagorno-Karabakh (so-called "occupation of Azerbaijani territories").
Susanna Safaryan, a former head of the Tourism Committee, stated in an interview with the media that she had not received such a letter during the years 2019-2021. However, there were occasional verbal requests from exhibition organizers not to use materials about Nagorno-Karabakh, as they became a subject of dispute, particularly when representatives from the Azerbaijani side caused disturbances near Armenian pavilions at various exhibitions.
It is worth noting that the ITB Berlin is the world's largest tourism trade show. The exhibition will take place from March 8 to 12, with participation from 10,000 organizations from 180 countries each year. Cities, tour operators, booking system developers, airlines, hotels, and other businesses related to tourism will present their services.
Armen Ashotyan, Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia and former Chair of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee, has published a photo of the letter on his Facebook page along with a commentary.
