EU Observer Mission May Pose Risk to Normalization of Relations, Says Azerbaijani Spokesman
The deployment of an EU mission to Armenia could hinder the normalization process between Baku and Yerevan, said Sahiba Gafarova, the spokesperson of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (parliament).
“The sending of external forces under the guise of an EU observer mission to Armenia, near the Azerbaijani border, and their misuse may pose a threat to the normalization process, and this should be avoided,” she stated.
She noted that she had expressed this position during meetings held in Russia regarding the deployment of the EU observer mission at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Earlier this week, during a meeting with Gafarova in Moscow, Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the Russian State Duma, asserted that “the involvement of the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will create new problems for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.”
