Turkey Demands Finland and Sweden Fulfill Their Obligations
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg upon his arrival in Ankara, stated that Turkey expects Sweden and Finland to fulfill their obligations outlined in the Madrid memorandum.
The memorandum, signed on June 28, stipulates the provision of written guarantees regarding the commitment to refrain from supporting terrorist organizations.
At the same time, Cavusoglu mentioned to reporters that Turkey is engaged in discussions with several NATO member countries regarding the possibility of separately considering Finland’s application.
Previously, Finland's Ministry of Defense announced that it would be preferable for NATO if Helsinki and Stockholm joined the alliance together, rather than sequentially.
It should be noted that Finland and Sweden are expected to join NATO in the fall, having met all of Turkey’s conditions.
