Catholicos of All Armenians on Relations with Authorities: "Hraparak"
There are certain disagreements with the authorities. This was stated by Catholicos Garegin II in an interview with the newspaper "Hraparak".
“Our meetings with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and representatives of the authorities in the post-war years have been ceremonial, within the framework of state events, such as the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Armenia,” the Supreme Patriarch said.
“The relations between the authorities and the Church are of a ceremonial nature. Yes, there are certain disagreements with the authorities. The Mother See has addressed these issues on various occasions. We do not deem it appropriate to characterize these relations as reconciliatory or oppositional. The Church is aware of its calling and mission towards its faithful children, and diligently contributes its possible share for the well-being and secure life of our people and the strengthening of the Armenian statehood. The positions expressed by the Church regarding national and social issues should be understood in this spirit,” added Garegin II.
