Driver of 'Hamer' Refuses Legal Representation

The driver of a 'Hamer' vehicle, who grossly violated traffic regulations at Republic Square, has refused legal representation.

"On Sunday, I appeared as a public defender at the preliminary investigation body, but the citizen stated that he waives the assistance of a lawyer and will defend himself," lawyer Shushan Harutyunyan told NEWS.am.

It is recalled that on February 10, around 11 PM, the driver of the 'Hamer' vehicle aggressively violated traffic rules in the center of Yerevan, did not comply with the police officers' lawful demands, drove towards police officers and civilians, and engaged in actions that endangered their life and health. Gunfire was used to stop the vehicle's progress towards the tires.

Later, the Investigative Committee reported that the driver had asked the police officers for money to charge his vehicle, then began driving erratically in Republic Square. The driver was subsequently arrested and later placed in custody.

The driver of the 'Hamer' is 25-year-old Gegham Sahradyan, a resident of the city of Ararat in Ararat Province. It should be noted that numerous online users expressed confusion over the fact that dozens of police vehicles and officers were unable to neutralize the reckless driver who posed a threat to the public and had run over a police officer, and had to resort to gunfire in the city center. Users criticized the police for their unprofessional actions.
